SA Film wins Best Picture at BRICS Film Festival

Poppie Nongena, a South African film from director Christiaan Olwagen recently won the Best Picture Award at the BRICS Film Festival held in Moscow, Russia in early October.

Poppie Nongena is a South African biographical drama based on the Elsa Joubert novel that tells the story of a South African isiXhosa mother struggling during a period of extreme upheaval in the country.

The film was released in January 2020 and has already won several awards and nominations.

Sadly, author Elsa Joubert passed away in Cape Town in June 2020 during lockdown aged 97. She was unable to see her family during this time due to COVID restrictions.
