The Rivonia Trial was one of the most important trials in legal history. The defendants, charged with conspiring to overthrow the apartheid government by sabotage, expected to be hanged but decided to turn the trial into a political trial, putting the apartheid regime in the dock of international opinion, if necessary at the expense of trying to save their lives.
But the lawyers were determined to save them from the gallows. They both succeeded and in the process strengthened deep bonds of respect and camaraderie. They also changed history.

The current website provides general contact information as well as civic and immigration matters with links to South African government departments. The site is not yet complete with updates expected in the near future.

A new song, The Flame has been released in South Africa. Written by Karen Zoid and the Ndlovu Youth Choir and featuring an unusual contributor, AB de Villiers Jr.
The Flame was filmed and recorded with Karen Zoid in Cape Town, The Ndlovu Youth Choir in Limpopo and AB who currently is in Dubai for the IPL cricket tournament.

Vin Diesel recently posted his first video on TikTok featuring Brenda Fassie’s hit Vuli Ndlela. He fell in love with the song while filming Bloodshot in South Africa two years ago when the crew blasted the song on set. He was as he puts it “feeling bummed” as he couldn’t make his mom’s birthday dinner that evening and song lifted his spirits.
There’s a new artisan food and craft market at Wimbledon Rugby Club this weekend and they’ve got lots of South African products for sale.
Sam, a South African living in the UK for 12 years was running a successful events company until lockdown crippled her business along with many other small local businesses. In order to help these businesses keep alive and trading, they came up with the concept to create a new Artisan Food and Craft Market as a joint venture with the Wimbledon Rugby Club allowing traders the opportunity to continue trading and attract new customers as well as give the local community an outdoor event in a COVID safe environment.
Two South African Stalls will be there on Saturday 31st October and Sunday 1st November selling biltong, curry and rice, droewors, koeksisters, sweets, crisps and more of your favourite products from back home.
You’ll find other fresh produce here too including sourdough bread, pastries, cheese, olive oil, pet products and unique handmade items.
The local brewery By The Horns will be there too. So if you’re looking to enjoy a boerie roll and beer this weekend, head down to the Artisan Food and Craft Market at the Wimbledon Rugby Club.
Sniffer dogs and their handlers spent the morning training at London’s Paddington Station earlier this week to demonstrate their skills at detecting Covid-19.
These super sniffer dogs have been trained by the Medical Detection Dogs charity organisation. They are able to detect Covid-19 in under a second and track people who are carrying the virus.
Having been trained in a lab environment, this was the first time at a location similar to their intended role and environment. The dogs could be on duty at busy stations and airports as soon as April next year, if not before.

Apart from Paddington Square, bio detection dogs have started work at Helsinki airport to detect coronavirus. Although this was just part of a trial, it seems as if sniffer dogs are here to stay as it is cheap, fast and effective!
