Miss Universe, Zozi Tunzi to hand over her crown in May

Zozibini Tunzi was the first black woman from South Africa to win the Miss Universe crown in December 2019. She currently holds the longest reign on record for any Miss Universe enjoying the title for one year and five months. Restrictions arising from the pandemic caused the postponement of the pageant allowing Zozi to keep the crown for longer.

Now, after a year and a half, the 69th Miss Universe competition will return with a live telecast on May 16th where Zozi will pass on the crown to the new beauty queen in Florida at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood.

The 70th edition of the annual pageant will be held in December 2021, making the 69th Miss Universe winner holding the shortest reign in the pageant’s history of only 7 months.

Zozi has used her voice as Miss Universe to encourage young women to “take up space” and hopes to bring more voices together to make change across the world.
