New Cape Winelands Airport set for Development

14 Kilometers northeast of Durbanville lies Fisantekraal Airport, built in the 1940s by the South African Air Force. The airfield was transferred to the local municipality in the 60s and was later sold to a private owner in 1993.

It changed hands again in 2020 when billionaire Rob Hersov purchased the airfield. Fisantekraal Airport has now been renamed the Cape Winelands Airport with plans to convert it into a competitor to Cape Town international.

Located on a 150ha site, Cape Winelands Airport manages numerous aircraft hangars for the storage and maintenance of private aircraft and helicopters.

Hersov believes it’s the perfect site to launch Cape Town’s second commercial airport, the equivalent to Lanseria Airport in Gauteng.
