It’s official, Port Elizabeth is now called Gqeberha and South Africans are battling to pronounce it.
Gqeberha is the isiXhosa name for Walmer Township, one of the first and oldest Port Elizabeth townships.
Nathi Mthetwa, Arts and Culture minister announced a number of other name changes in the Eastern Cape including Uitenhage which will now be known as Kariega.
