If you get a phone call that says your “National Insurance number has been compromised” and to “press 1 on your handset to be connected to the caller”, please be aware this may be a scam.
“We are asking the public to remain vigilant and be cautious of any automated calls they receive mentioning their National Insurance number becoming compromised”. – Pauline Smith, Head of Action Fraud
If you get such a phone call, take a moment to think before you give away any personal information. It could be fake. It’s fine to refuse, or ignore any requests.
If you have given personal details to someone over the phone and you now think it is a scam, contact your bank, building society and credit card company immediately and report it to Action Fraud at www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.
