Yes it’s true! Head of F1, Stefano Domenicali is in South Africa having talks to determine whether the Grand Prix will return to African soils.
South Africa has not hosted a Grand Prix since 1993 with Africa being the only continent apart from Antarctica not to have a race on the current schedule.
“It is the only continent we’re not in, it’s an unbelievable demographic in population and one that we’re very keen to bring more into the Formula One world.” – says Chloe Targett-Adams, Formula One’s global director of race promotion.
The 2023 calendar also sees a new race in Las Vegas, let’s hold thumbs South Africa will be in the running too.
Lewis Hamilton is a huge fan of South Africa, back in 2021 he said “The place that I really feel is dear to my heart and most important for me is to get a race back in South Africa. I think there’s a great following out there and it would be great to be able to highlight just how beautiful the motherland is.“

For the first time in the 14-year history of the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon, South Africa will be the host country of this prestigious competition dedicated to world-class Sauvignon Blanc, making it the first country outside of Europe to host this competition.
The 2023 Concours Mondial du Sauvignon will take place from Monday 13 March to Friday 17 March in Franschhoek in the Cape Winelands. The competition is hosted by the cultivar association Sauvignon Blanc South Africa in partnership with local, as well as international partners.
Over the past decade the competition has taken place in winegrowing regions all over Europe including Bordeaux, Touraine, Styria, Rueda, Friuli Venezia Giulia, and Torres Vedras. Sauvignon Blanc has in recent years become an extremely popular varietal in the international marketplace.
“Sauvignon Blanc is South Africa’s top selling cultivar and our most exported varietal,” says Sauvignon Blanc SA Chairman, RJ Botha. “South African Sauvignon Blanc is a unique asset which help build and maintain a strong brand reputation for the country. It makes perfect sense to host this competition, the largest and most significant international competition entirely dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc, in the Cape Winelands. To be the first host ever outside of Europe is an amazing accomplishment for our country and our wine industry.”

About the competition
The competition was launched in 2010 to promote white wines and showcase one of the world’s most popular white grape varieties. Since then, the event has become an international competition, with the number of producer countries taking part increasing year-on-year. Technical management of the tastings is handled by the organisers of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles who boast over 20 years’ experience in organising world-class wine competitions. The Concours Mondial du Sauvignon is open to all wines made from a majority percentage (51% min.) of Sauvignon blanc and/or Sauvignon gris, irrespective of their producer, origin or category. Since 2017, a new category has allowed Sauvignon-based sparkling wines to take part.

The Queen’s Birthday Parade
(Trooping the Colour), Buckingham Palace
Hosted by The Royal Family on Thursday, 2nd June at Buckingham Palace. More than 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians will come together in the traditional Parade to mark The Queen’s official birthday. If you cannot make it you can watch it live on BBC One.
Jermyn Street, Mayfair
Jermyn Street will close to traffic on Saturday, 4th June and host a quintessential British street party. Drink stalls, live entertainment and pop-up food stalls.
Gulliver’s Valley, Yorkshire

Then on Saturday 4th June it’s the Jubilee Party in the Park on the Long Walk, with cars from every year 1952 to 2022 from 11 am to 4 pm, performances on the stage from 11 am until the live broadcast of Party at the Palace from London on our big screens from 8 pm, ending at 10.30 pm. The Jubilee at Sacrewell, Cambridgeshire
Celebrate the Queen’s momentous Platinum Jubilee with a very special four-day event at Sacrewell, the popular heritage and visitor attraction just off the A47 and A1 near Peterborough. The proceedings will be starting on 2nd June, running until 5th June 2022 inviting visitors to share friendship, history and fun while exploring everything that Sacrewell has to offer from 9am – 4.30pm each day.
Highlights during the event will include an inflatable assault course, live music, children’s games, craft activities, a special Jubilee trail and a tractor display provided by Peterborough Farm Machinery Preservation Society from the 1950s to modern day, including a display of vintage tools and signs from the start of the Queen’s reign.
Blenheim Palace Food Festival, Oxfordshire

Time to renew your adult South African Passport? You can apply via post or visit the High Commission at 15 Whitehall in London. You will need an appointment which you can apply for via email. Don’t bother to just rock up as you’ll be denied entry by the very South African doorman.
To secure your appointment you’re required to send an email to civic.appointments@dirco.gov.za with the subject line – Passport Renewal – Adult.
Expect a wait of up to 2 months for a reply with your appointment date and instructions. State your full name, I.D. number and date of birth in your email.
MUST Fill in forms DHA-73 and B1-529 (a determination of citizenship form). You will also be given an additional form to complete while you are there. Click here to download the guidelines for adult passports supplied by the High Commission.
Important to take along a black pen, your South African ID and Passport, with 2 copies of each, your passport photos and any other passport/citizenship information along with your birth certificate (and 2 copies) if you were not born in South Africa. It is definitely a good idea to print 2 blank copies of the forms and fill in the basics just in case you need to amend them.
Have your parent’s ID numbers to complete the B1-529 form. If you do not have access to that information just state you do not know on the application form.
You may have to wait for up to an hour to be assisted with your application. Once you’ve submitted your forms you’ll be sent to the payment counter, have your £35 ready in cash, and take the exact amount as they may not have change. Next is your fingerprints, wash your hands and you’re set to go.
Collection time of your passport is a bit of a debate, be prepared to wait up to 16 months. On receipt, it claims 6 – 9 months and not to contact until this time has expired. If you happen to visit SA in the meantime, apply there too.
Getting there is pretty straightforward with various transport options and map apps available. It’s a brisk 15-minute walk from Waterloo Station or the closest station to the South African High Commission is Charing Cross.
Walking from Waterloo, expect to see these landmarks so you know you’re on the right track.
