Caleb Swanepoel was in Buffalo Bay with his brothers bodysurfing when he was attacked by a great white shark, which pulled him underwater and severed his right leg above the knee. His recovery was remarkable and within 3 days he was on crutches and on the road to recovery and within a few weeks he was back in the water. Interestingly, Caleb only began surfing after the incident.
Caleb has grown from strength to strength and has amazingly gone on to become a South African and Western Province Para-Surfing Champion and a National Para Swimming Champion. He describes himself as a South African dad, friend, brother, a motivational speaker, shark attack survivor and an athlete.
And now, his short film, And yet, I Remain, directed by Rick Wall and Dougal Paterson, is premiering at the Northern America Mountainfilm Festival, famous for screening independent documentary films.
A truly inspirational story.
