Cape Town will be the first Southern African city to host the Formula E, held in 12 destinations around the globe. Formula E is theĀ single-seaterĀ motorsportĀ championship forĀ electric cars and it’s gaining in popularity.

February 25th 2023 is the allocated date for the Cape Town E-Prix, however some doubt has been cast if it is able to take place as planned next year.

The Cape Town E-Prix could see 33 000 spectators and the race is expected to bring in an estimated R2 billionĀ in tourism and more than R500 million in media exposure for Cape Town.

The Cape Town track is said to be one of the fastest in the Formula E series. Starting at Green Point precinct’s Vlei Road, into Helen Suzman Boulevard, down Granger Bay Boulevard and then heading along the seafront on Mouille Point’s Beach Road, before turning into Fritz Sonnenberg Road on the home stretch to the finish line.

Brad Binder to set new lap time at Kyalami

0

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing ride to set new benchmark lap time in South Africa.

South African MotoGPā„¢ star and Red Bull athlete Brad Binder makes a return to his home country for a ā€œSuperlapā€ where he intends to set a new benchmark lap time at the Kyalami race track, where no official track record for a modern era MotoGP bike has been established – until now.

Binder became Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s first-ever MotoGP winner in his rookie season – now in his 3rd season in the premire class, whilst home for the summer break he has taken on the challenge of setting a new benchmark at his home track Kyalami the current best known time on a motorcycle stands at 1:48.078.

Speaking to the media recently at a press conference Binder expressed ā€œI am really excited to be back home, It has always been a childhood dream of mine to ride a MotoGP bike in my home country. My goal is to set a new benchmark around Kyalami on a MotoGP bike, and I believe that I can achieve thisā€.

Binder took to the track for his ā€œSuperlapā€ describing the track as world class with facilities on par with many of those he currently races on: ā€œIt was cool to ride the MotoGP bike at Kyalami, the track is special, unique and there is nothing quite like it out there. I’m excited to ride at home and set a new benchmarkā€.

The Grand Prix winner is currently back in SA for the mid-season break, and will resume racing at the British GP on the 7th of August 2022 with hopes of challenging for the podium once again.

For more on Brad’s attempt at setting the benchmark aboard a modern era MotoGP bike around the new Kyalami layout keep an eye out on redbull.com and Red Bull otorsports social channels, 18 August 2022 and find out if Brad has officially set a new benchmark lap.
